COMMON ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR DESIGN / IIT

CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to Post Graduate programs (M.Des.) at :

*GATE qualified candidates will also be considered

CEED qualifications in itself does not guarantee admission to the above mentioned programs. Candidates also have to fulfill other requirements such as tests & interviews of the respective institutions for admission. CEED examination tests the candidates for visual perception ability, drawing skills, design aptitude and communication skills.

The test is to assess the aptitude for design, visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity & communication skills.

Eligibility for CEED 2012: Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 2011

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent
  2. Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)
  3. B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
  4. G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience
  5. Master's degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications

Before applying for CEED, candidates must assure themselves that they are eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in at the websites below

Admission Forms & Prospectus

ONLINE Application Printout, along with the Demand Draft for Rs. 950 (Rs. 475 for SC/ST candidates) by crossed demand draft in favour of IIT Bombay, payable at Mumbai, by Speed Post to GATE Office, IITBombay, Powai Mumbai 400 076 (write your name and application number on the back of the DD) and other enclosures (if any), is to be submitted in person at the counter of GATE Office, IIT Bombay or mailed only by Registered Post or Speed Post,so as to reach the GATE Office, IIT Bombay on or before Tuesday, November 3, 2009.        Write "CEED 2010 ONLINE Application" on top of the envelope.

CEED Exam Structure

CEED examination will the test your drawing skills, aesthetics, sensibility, creativity, problem identification ability, your approach to visual & mechanical design, visual perception ability, design aptitude and communication skills. It will test your ability to, creatively & appropriately solve simple design problems, problem analysis, alternate concepts, justifications for your solutions, visual & textual presentation skills, visualization, general awareness and comprehension.

CEED examination will consist of two parts. First part tests your drawing skills, aesthetics, sensibility , creativity, problem identification and your approach to visual and mechanical design. The second part will be objective type, which will test your skills in visualization, creativity, design and general awareness, and comprehension. For any enquiry on CEED contact:

Indian Institute of Science, Banglore (Centre for Prduct Design & Manufacturing, CPDM)

The Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (CPDM) was established to pursue excellence in teaching, research and industry interaction in the area of Design.

Programs Offered

2 Year M.Des in Product Design & Engineering

Eligibility
Basic degree in engineering / architecture. Selection for admission is based on performance in a design aptitude test (DAT) and interview conducted in April/May. Shortlisting for DAT is done on the basis of applicant’s CEED or GATE score. In case the score is not yet available at the time of applying, the candidates can apply indicating their CEED / GATE registration numbers.

The DAT / interview will test the engineering knowledge; spatial, creative, and analytical thinking ability; aesthetic sensitivity and communicating ability; and the overall aptitude for the design and the suitability of the candidate for the programme. Candidates will be given an opportunity to present their previous design related work, if any, during the interview

Procedure
Application Forms can be obtained by any one of the following two methods:

  1. From selected CANARA BANK Branches on payment of Rs. 700/-
  2. Send your request for application form with 2 address slips (stickers), program to which admission is sought along with the demand draft for Rs. 700/- for general candidates and Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PH candidates with a copy of the caste/PH certificate to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 560 012. The DD must be drawn in favor of “Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore”.
